The argument for it is boring and correct
Most under-sink systems use proprietary cartridges. That means the manufacturer sets the replacement price for as long as you own the system, and if they discontinue the line you have a housing with nothing to put in it.
The APEC uses standard 10-inch cartridges — the size that dozens of manufacturers make and every filtration supplier stocks. Over ten years that is the difference between a competitive market for your consumables and a captive one, and it usually outweighs any difference in purchase price.

The calcite stage
Stage six is a calcite neutralizer that dissolves calcium carbonate back into the product water, raising both the mineral content and the pH. Two honest points about it:
- It genuinely improves the taste for people who find RO water flat. That is the real benefit and it is worth having.
- The health claims around alkaline water are not something we will endorse. Your stomach is strongly acidic, and drinking slightly alkaline water does not change systemic pH. Buy it for taste, which is a good enough reason.
Feed pressure matters here
The specified window is 40 to 85 psi. That is more forgiving at the bottom than the iSpring's 45 psi floor, which matters if you are at the end of a long municipal run or on a well with a marginal pressure tank.
Below the floor, production drops and rejection worsens. A pressure gauge on an outside spigot costs almost nothing and settles the question before you order.
What you give up
Space. This is the biggest one, and the tank dimensions above are the reason. Under-sink cabinets are full of drain trap, garbage disposal and cleaning products, and a 4-gallon tank is not small.
Speed. 75 GPD with a tank means filling a large pot is a pause, and once the tank empties you wait while it refills. The tankless G3P800 does not have this characteristic.
Wastewater. Conventional ratio, well short of the 3:1 the G3P800 publishes.
The cost-per-gallon math
This is the system where the ten-year arithmetic is the entire recommendation.
Price a full set of standard 10-inch replacement cartridges from any filtration supplier, then price a full set of proprietary cartridges for a competing system. Multiply each by the number of replacement cycles in ten years — pre-filters typically every six to twelve months, membrane every two to five years.
The gap that opens is routinely larger than the difference in purchase price. That is the whole case for this system, and it is invisible on the day you buy.

Is alkaline water from an RO system actually better for you?
The taste improvement is real. The health claims are not something we will endorse — stomach acid is far stronger than any pH shift a remineralization stage produces, and systemic pH is tightly regulated by your body. Buy it because RO water tastes flat otherwise.
How much space does the APEC need?
The housing is about 15.5 by 5.25 by 17.5 inches and the tank is about 11 by 11 by 15 inches, and they are separate objects. Measure around your drain trap and garbage disposal before ordering, because that is where the space actually is or is not.
Does it need electricity?
No. It runs on household water pressure, which is one of its advantages over tankless systems and the reason it works in cabinets with no outlet.
